Brief Case Game

Ok, want to bet with a few wise guys today?

There aren’t many of them, but they are bringing brief cases of money to the books and changing a line on a game that is the public’s second most bet team of the week, the San Diego Chargers. The opening line on this game had the homestanding Dallas Cowboys a 3-point favorite over the visiting Chargers, which seemed an interesting underdog role for the team riding the all-time record win streak for December against a team that is getting ridiculed for December failures.

Dallas starting quarterback Tony Romo has lost only two November starts in his four-year NFL career … but has a losing mark in December … including last week’s setback to New York at Giants Stadium. That defeat knocked the Cowboys off their perch alone atop the NFC East Division, dropping them into a tie with the Philadelphia Eagles and allowing last week’s opponent to creep to within one game of Dallas.

The Giants and Eagles meet this afternoon in New Jersey, which means Dallas can either be tied with the Eagles and two games ahead of New York, or back alone in first place in the NFC East, with a win over the Chargers today at Cowboys Stadium. Suffice it to say … this is a big game for the Cowboys on many fronts.

First, for their playoff chances, and second, to somewhat clear the air on this nagging recent history of not being able to win games once the calendar turns past November. While a streak like not winning in December could line up with two other hurdles the Cowboys had to overcome when they were tagged with not being able to win while wearing their blue road jerseys, or not being able to win the Super Bowl, and just as it took wins to undo those theories, it will require victories this month to dispel the rumors Tony Romo can’t win after November.

Today, while the wagering world is lining up on the San Diego Chargers at a rate of 5 to 1, and even the bright handicappers in the Hilton Contest and the average players walking up to the window at casinos in Nevada, are siding with the points and the Chargers, I offer you an opportunity to join the few recognizing value with Dallas … and against a pair of December trends. Dallas snapped the Cowboys all-time winning mark for consecutive regular season wins in December; the Cowboys had won 13 straight in a streak that started in 1968 and ended in 1972. The Chargers haven’t lost in the twelfth month since 2006, and their current string now stands at an all-time record 15 consecutive December victories.

How important is that for the outcome of today’s game in Dallas?

About as significant as the guy summoning a beer vender from his endzone seats.

It means nothing, because the records were built by factors a lot more significant than what month the games were played … and today, those factors point to a home team win in Dallas.

How significant is the backing of the Cowboys from the few that like them?

Despite the heavy wagering on San Diego by a wide margin of the bettors, the money coming in from the few backing Dallas has actually had the books shift the spread upward, now making Dallas a 3½ point favorite. I always recommend buying the hook off a three point line, paying the price in this case to get Dallas at minus three points. The best time to buy points on a game is on the best selections … and today, Dallas is a Premium Top Pick with a Money Management Number of a season high Nine.

While the Chargers are the public’s second most popular play of the day, they like the Green Bay Packers (-4) over the Chicago Bears best in Week 14. The third game on the public play list is the Houston Texans (-7) over the Seattle Seahawks.

As for weather at NFL sites, no team will have to confront the frigid conditions that Pittsburgh and Cleveland were forced to endure on Thursday night, although at Soldier Field in Chicago there will be some rain and 36 degree temperatures. Other conditions less than ideal has rain forecasted for game time in Baltimore where the Ravens host the Detroit Lions, and in Oakland for the Raiders game against the Washington Redskins. Rain could also greet the Eagles and Giants for tonight’s contest at Giants Stadium, and scattered thunderstorms are also on tap for the Miami Dolphins cross state battle against the Jaguars in Jacksonville.

As for the Qoxhi selections, in addition to the Top rated Cowboys play, they are now posted on this site and if a Bullet Play develops during the morning hours, that selection will be added to the play list at 9:45 a.m. Pacific Time.
